Ubuntu Phone grabbed the attention ever since the news broke out that Ubuntu is going mobile. A lot had been speculated about which manufacturers will be launching smart phones running on Ubuntu Phone OS. And as it turns out, Samsung could be the first major manufacturer to consider an Ubuntu based smart phone named Samsung U1000.
As reported by EFY, Samsung U1000 is conceptualized with almost the same features as of Galaxy S4. It has no physical buttons on the front unlike Galaxy series and if you look it sidewise, it highly resembles the iPhone. Phone looks elegant with nice finishing and rounded corner (less rounded than Galaxy S3 and S4 though). As it is more of a concept, no details about the price or launch date are available at present.
Samsung has always experimented with the mobile OS. First it was Java then Bada and finally it met success with Android. But Samsung did not stop here. It’s Active S runs Windows, its Tizen phone is coming in August and now U1000 running on Ubuntu. It is highly likely that it will also come up with a Firefox smart phone.
While Ubuntu Phone is coming on a reputed manufacturer, Ubuntu Tab is available for pre-prder by an unknown Australian manufacturer. Success of Samsung U1000 will definitely open new gates for Ubuntu Tablets and bring more “known” names.
